We appreciate that the Application Form has a lot of questions, but this is intended to help both our prospective volunteers and our organisation in determining whether this type of role is right for you.  Please read the information below (on the right) and then complete the form (on the left).

Vision:

Calderdale Chaplains is part of this!

Purpose of Role:
To provide voluntary Christian support during the day-time to employers, employees and the general public across Calderdale, reflecting the love of God. 

Scope:
Working under the guidance of a team leader, you will visit workplaces and spend time in a pre-arranged public area to receive staff/visitors/customers as agreed with the host company/organisation.  Or you will visit one of the town centres (as agreed) on a regular basis, being available to those who work, visit or shop there. You will be given a hoodie (with a suggested donation of £15 to cover the cost of this) which will be worn whilst on Chaplaincy duty. 

Tasks:
  • Visit people in their work environment on a regular basis.
  • Be a friendly presence to staff and customers – a listening ear.
  • Be prepared to have private and confidential discussions with employees and with the general public upon request.
  • Refer people onto other relevant agencies when issues raised are outside your area of expertise.
  • Keep appropriate records of work done.  
  • Be available to people of all faiths and none.
  • Be pastoral in your approach to all people.
  • Be positive and supportive of the work of Calderdale Chaplains.
  • Abide by the Health & Safety & Security rules of the organisations with whom you will come into contact.
  • ​Carry out other duties, pertinent to the operation of Calderdale Chaplains, as agreed.

The person:    
A prospective day-time Calderdale Chaplain would have preferably been a regular member of his or her church for at least two years. Within their church they would be recognised for their pastoral gifts, ability to build up good relationships with a variety of people and spiritual maturity. They would preferably have had work experience of business, civic or retail areas. They need to have a sense of calling and passion for this ministry – willing to sensitively and professionally relate their Christian faith to the life and work of the people of Calderdale. They will be able to work collaboratively with fellow volunteer chaplains and with other agencies or bodies. They will abide by the Calderdale Chaplains policies and procedures.

Terms of appointment:
Calderdale Chaplains will be voluntary (unpaid) and appointed on a one year basis, renewable in discussion with the Calderdale Chaplains Coordinators.

Safeguarding / DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) procedure:
Here is the Calderdale Chaplains Safeguarding document. Some roles within Calderdale Chaplains will require a current DBS check before commencing their duties. We will discuss this with you.

Induction & Training:
All Chaplains will be required to complete training prior to deployment.

Accountability:
All Calderdale Chaplains are accountable to their team leaders and then to the Calderdale Chaplains Steering Group / Coordinators. You may also be accountable to the management of your Chaplaincy placement.
